Professional Experience and Training

Kiffany Gibbs is a Marin County therapist who has been counseling individuals and families for nearly twenty years.  She received her B.A. with honors in psychology from Harvard University and her Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of California Los Angeles.  Kiffany is licensed to practice therapy in the state of California by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (LCS #20848).

Having discovered her passion for the field of psychology during her undergraduate studies, Kiffany undertook her first research position in 1993 after being selected for a research fellowship by Dr. Leslie Brody at Harvard University.  This work culminated in a publication on gender differences in emotional expression.  She then coordinated a large NIMH-funded grant at Massachusetts General Hospital, researching ADHD in girls.  This study also resulted in a publication on ADHD in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Kiffany then shifted her emphasis from research to direct practice and has since worked in clinics, schools, hospitals, group homes, and private residential treatment.  She has extensive experience working with a broad range of emotional and behavioral problems and invaluable expertise developed in difficult clinical settings.  In addition to her direct clinical practice, Kiffany has served as a professional consultant and clinical supervisor on the emotional and social issues related to parenting and child development.  She has given numerous clinical trainings on parenting issues, treatment of anxiety and depression, and stress management.

Today, Kiffany provides individual therapy and couples counseling, and she now brings to her practice the personal experience and knowledge gained from mothering her own children.
